UK’s new ambassador to Geneva visits ITC

Karen Pierce applauds ITC’s work and vows continued support.

ITC’s Executive Director Patricia Francis on 13 September received Ms Karen Pierce, the UK’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN institutions in Geneva and the WTO, at ITC’s headquarters.

Ms Pierce, who took up her post as Ambassador and Permanent Representative on 7 May, said that the UK was determined to continue its support for ITC and the work done by the organization and that she was looking forward to work on issued related to trade and development.

Ms Francis expressed her appreciation for the strong support the UK has given to ITC over the years —both financially and by other means. She also stressed the importance of continuing the on-going work to build bridges between businesses in the UK and in emerging economies.

Before taking up her post in Geneva, Ms Pierce was a director in the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, with responsibility for South Asia and Afghanistan. Since she started working for the UK’s Foreign Service in 1983, she has held posts across the world, including Tokyo, Washington, DC, and New York.
