Trade Promotion between China and other Developing Countries along the Belt and Road Initiative

    Overview

    Summary

This project aims to support the implementation of the MOU signed between MOFCOM and ITC (2017, renewed in 2021) for promoting unimpeded trade cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. It uses the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) as platforms to promote trade, investment and business partnerships between China and other developing countries. It builds on the outcomes and lessons learned from the participation of SMEs in CIIE and CAETE in 2018, 2019 and 2021.

    Sustainable Development Goals

This project contributes to the following Sustainable Development Goals, as defined by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Explore business opportunities in the Chinese market

The International Trade Centre (ITC) supports selected small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the 142 Belt & Road countries to grasp business opportunities in the fast-growing Chinese market.

We use the China International Import Fair (CIIE) and the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) as platforms to increase the business connections of SMEs to Chinese business partners.

ITC also helps SMEs prepare promotional materials, organizes business matchmaking events, and provides training on how to trade with Chinese partners.

Policy dialogue on south-south cooperation, such as the “China Africa Industry Chain Cooperation forum” was organized at the CAETE 2021.

Well positioned ITC booths at the CIIE and the CAETE trade fairs promoted such products as honey from Zambia, cashew nuts from Mozambique, essential oil blends from the Philippines and chocolate confectionery from Colombia.

During the CIIE 2021, ITC also jointly launched the “Digital Trade Accelerator” initiative with Alibaba, a Chinese multinational technology company specializing in e-commerce, retail, Internet, and technology, to support SMEs from developing countries to better perform on e-platforms.
