The Gambia: Strengthening the National Infrastructure for Peace to Promote Social Cohesion

    Overview

    Summary

This project is a component of a USD 2.5 m project led by UNDP and implemented jointly with UNESCO and ITC, with the overarching goal to strengthen inter and intra community relationships in The Gambia through strong coordination by the National Infrastructure for Peace (I4P), and through building the capacities of national peacebuilding and conflict prevention institutions. The government of The Gambia will be supported by creating a peaceful environment (base) at national and community level. This will be done by strengthening social cohesion, early warning, and conflict prevention through the establishment of the national infrastructure for peace to support the implementation of the post TRRC recommendations.

ITC's intervention aims to increase the capacity and services of institutions in sports and arts to foster social inclusion. Further, it increases opportunities of economic participation and livelihood development for members (residents) in target communities. ITC complements ongoing support measures through the creative industry to design and roll out advocacy materials related to the enhancement of social cohesion.
