Gambian women entrepreneurs exhibit their lifestyle products at the SheTrades Hub Gambia Launch event.

    Overview

    Summary

The SheTrades Hub Gambia facilitates the integration of Gambian women-owned businesses in the economy and increases their participation in trade. The focus areas of the Hub contribute to income and employment opportunities for Gambian women by fostering self-employment through access to finance, business development support, digitalisation, and support in public policy innovations.

The local host institution of the SheTrades Hub is the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration & Employment (MOTIE), key implementing partner of the SheTrades Gambia Project. MOTIE works closely with the International Trade Centre and key public and private stakeholders to facilitate the establishment of a conducive business environment for women entrepreneurs.

The SheTrades Hub Gambia was launched in 2021 as continuation of the SheTrades Gambia Project. The project looks back at 3 years of very successful interventions for economic women empowerment. They helped securing over 3 million USD worth of investments and business transactions for women entrepreneurs, improved the capacity of 5 Business Support Organisations, and trained 1,020 women for more competitiveness.

The SheTrades initiative has introduced me to a great network of women, provided me access to great virtual learning opportunities and has given me the opportunity to showcase my brand outside of The Gambia.

The support from SheTrades was a very important factor for my farm to evolve. We were able to buy a weeding and seeding machine to increase the efficiency of our production. Before the training in record keeping, I had no overview of my expenses. Now, I know on what I spend my money.

If I was going to expand and realize my ambitions, I needed to develop my business skills. I am glad to be a SheTrades member. I have learned a lot from the coaching, especially being aware of things that I took for granted and preparing my business for growth.

The support of SheTrades came at a perfect time. As a brand, I was evolving, and the coach has played her part in that journey. She helped me to understand better how to put a collection together and to appeal to international markets, not to mention the coach’s vast knowledge of colours and different support in the past months.
