Iran: Trade-Related Technical Assistance
The overall objective is to contribute to sustainable economic and social development in Iran, through increased and diversified trade in goods and services. More specifically, this project aims to support the business sector, including high potential SMEs, by facilitating the drafting of a National Export Strategy, supporting the development of selected value chains, providing technical cooperation to Iran's Trade Promotion Organization (I-TPO), and establishing a youth trade accelerator programme. The project was designed by ITC jointly with the Government of Iran, namely the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade (MIMT). Project partners include the ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, Chambers of Commerce, sector associations, and the Iran Trade Promotion Organization.
Sustainable Development Goals
Fostering inclusive and sustainable trade-led growth in Iran
The International Trade Centre’s EU-Iran Development project is designed to improve Iran’s growing private sector. The five-year 2019-2023 project brings together Iranian policymakers, trade support institutions, private sector organizations, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Together with these stakeholders, we are:
implementing the National Export Strategy
providing direct assistance to SMEs and taking select companies into international markets
setting up the Europe-Iran Business Forum (EIBF), where over 2,000 Iranian managers and companies may receive training and engage in B2B matchmaking with European companies
promoting e-commerce and capacity building on digital marketing tools
enabling targeted market access into the European Union
promoting sustainable, climate-resilient agriculture
promoting organic certification of Iran’s unique medicinal plants, harvested mostly by women
