ITC’s biennial World Trade Promotion Organization Conference and Awards are taking place in Accra, Ghana, in May

Registration is now open for the World Trade Promotion Organization Conference taking place in Accra, Ghana, on 27–28 May 2020.

At the event – now in its 13th edition – trade and investment promotion organizations (TPOs) around the world discuss how they can best help small and medium-sized businesses to adapt to fast-moving global trends and volatile international conditions.

“Our stakeholders will come to Ghana to tackle common challenges, find solutions and share best practices," ITC's acting Executive Director Dorothy Tembo said. “We will also be placing a spotlight on trade, investment and inclusive growth and how TPOs can contribute to the UN 2030 agenda.”

The theme of this year’s biennial event is “20:20 Vision: It takes a BOLD type”. A bold organisation is resilient, agile and courageous. They are able to understand and mitigate risk on behalf of small businesses so that they can compete and thrive in a challenging international environment.

Hundreds of trade and investment leaders will come together to explore how they can be resilient and agile against this rapidly evolving international trade and investment background.

“What is required is not necessarily new economic ideas from these leaders but boldness to find the achievable path for positive change in trading among ourselves,” said Dr Afua Asabea Asare, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority.

The WTPO Conference will identify the factors driving uncertainty, explore how trade and investment promotion organizations can respond to business challenges as they arise, and discover how they can diversify markets to mitigate risks.

The conference is also an opportunity to recognize excellence. The WTPO Awards 2020 will be presented to national trade and investment institutions that have formed innovative partnerships, demonstrated excellent use of technology, and have promoted inclusive and sustainable trade.

The winners of the WTPO Awards 2020 will be announced at a gala dinner on 27 May 2020. GEPA won the category Best Use of Information Technology Award at the most recent WTPO Awards in 2018.

The 13th WTPO Conference and Awards will take place at the Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City, Accra, on 27-28 May. The Ghana Export Promotion Authority, in partnership with ITC, hosts the event. Created in 1996, the conference takes place every two years. Conference hosts are selected by their peers.

The International Trade Centre is the joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations. ITC assists micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to become more competitive in global markets, thus contributing to sustainable economic development as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Ghana Export Promotion Authority is the National Export Trade Support Institution of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI) responsible for the facilitation, development and promotion of Ghanaian exports. The organization’s focus has primarily been to diversify Ghana’s export base from the traditional Gold and other unprocessed minerals, Cocoa Beans, Timber Logs and Lumber.
