Indonesian women operate between 43 and 49 percent of micro enterprises and less than 25 percent of small and medium-sized enterprises, according to the World Bank. The new resources will help unlock market opportunities in the United Kingdom for Indonesian women-led businesses in home décor and women's accessories.

Indonesian women operate between 43 and 49 percent of micro enterprises and less than 25 percent of small and medium-sized enterprises, according to the World Bank.

On 3 August 2023, the ITC SheTrades Commonwealth+ programme, in partnership with the United Kingdom - Indonesia Tech Hub, co-organized a roundtable discussion at the British Embassy Jakarta to discuss strategies and best practices.

During the event, ITC launched a new handbook on exporting home décor and women's accessories to the European Union (EU) and the UK markets. The handbook maps out sector-specific legal regulations and covers all aspects of exporting, including navigating EU and UK import and market regulations, voluntary sustainability certifications, and customs and logistics. It is available in Bahasa Indonesia and was developed in collaboration with the Geneva Graduate Institute’s TradeLab International Law Clinic.

The roundtable was facilitated by representatives from the Womanpreneur Community, which is the host institution of the SheTrades Indonesia Hub. Participants included ITC SheTrades Commonwealth+ Programme Manager, Michelle Kristy; UK - Indonesia Tech Hub Director Rachmalia Nikijuluw;  Director General of National Export Development of the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Ganef Judawati; as well as representatives from Alun Alun, Indonesia, Indonesia Eximbank, and five Indonesian women-led businesses in the home décor and women’s accessories sectors.

At the same event, ITC also launched Bahasa Indonesia versions of two SheTrades export competitiveness guidebooks and unveiled the first module of a new export readiness digital workshop that features an artificial intelligence-generated virtual instructor developed by SME Trade Academy at ITC.  Additional modules under the same workshop will be released in the coming months and will be available to all members of the SheTrades Indonesia Hub.

The newest set of step-by-step guides on export readiness and competitiveness was developed as part of SheTrades Commonwealth+ programme, which is supported by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

So far, the programme has translated the SheTrades Competitiveness Guidebook, SheTrades Guide for Women Entrepreneurs, and Interactive Export Competitiveness Guide into Bengali and Bahasa Indonesia.  It has also developed – in Bahasa Indonesia, Bengali, and Mauritian Creole – a training-of-trainers toolkit on creating quality digital assets for small businesses.
