Contribution to 2013 budget confirms Germany as top donor to ITC activities.

Mr Thomas Fitschen, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, on Tuesday 4 December presented the International Trade Centre (ITC) with €2 million (US$ 2.6m), the country’s contribution to ITC’s 2013 budget.

Mr Fitschen was received by Ms Patricia Francis, ITC’s Executive Director, who said that German support for ITC and the organization’s work was invaluable. “The strategic partnership we have with Germany is very important for ITC,” she said. “It is also incredibly valuable to be part of the German thinking and approach towards trade and development aid.”

The Ambassador said that Germany in particular supports ITC’s approach towards SMEs in developing countries, and the on-going efforts to link these into the global value chains.
During the visit, Mr Fitschen was also briefed about ITC’s work in 2012 and in particular on areas that have had significant financial input from Germany, such as the Ethical Fashion Initiative.
