ITC’s Trade and Environment Programme will participate in the WTO’s first-ever Advanced Course on Trade and Environment in Geneva.

From 16 to 27 April 2012, government officials from 26 developing countries will consolidate their knowledge on trade and environment and strengthen their ability to engage more actively in the work of the WTO Committee on Trade and Environment.

ITC’s Trade and Environment Programme has been invited to speak to the group on its current projects in the field of trade and environment. The objective of ITC’s Trade and Environment Programme is to improve the competitiveness of exports from developing countries in environmental markets and to overcome barriers that might result from environment related standards. In particular, ITC will speak on the opportunities and challenges developing countries face in relation to product carbon footprinting standards, as well as its current International Governmental Organization capacity building activities relevant to the green economy.

Other topics covered in the course include WTO disciplines and case law; environmental technologies and services; environmental requirements and market access; and issues at the intersection of trade and climate change as well as the green economy.

ITC has contributed to past WTO training activities on trade and environment for developing countries, including regional workshops in Asia and Africa.
