ILAC - the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation - is an international cooperation of laboratory and inspection accreditation bodies formed more than 30 years ago to help remove technical barriers to trade. Accreditation allows people to make a conscious decision on the selection of a laboratory, because it demonstrates the labs competence, impartiality and overall capacity. It also increases confidence in products and services.

Accreditation bodies throughout the world, that have been evaluated by peers as competent, sign arrangements that enhance the acceptance of products and services across national borders, thereby creating a framework to support international trade through the removal of technical barriers. ILAC unites representatives of accreditation bodies from more than 70 countries. The ultimate purpose of ILAC is wide usage and acknowledgement of the results received by accredited laboratories by industry and officials, and trust in certified products, testing
protocols, and the activities of accredited bodies on conformance evaluation.

In recent years, ITC has provided technical support to the Kyrgyz Accreditation Centre to achieve international recognition of its activities and of its accredited conformity assessment bodies. In October KAC went through pre-assessment by representatives from ILAC. The results of the pre-assessment show KAC’s significant achievements, which will allow it to join the multilateral ILAC Arrangement in the near future.
