Le quinoa sera sous les feux de la rampe lors de la présentation des produits naturels et biologiques du Pérou à l’occasion de l’édition 2013 de BioFach.

Peruvian organic produce, and in particular quinoa, will on 15 February take centre-stage at BioFach 2013 where the International Trade Centre (ITC) and PromPeru, Peru’s export promotion agency, will organize a forum entitled ‘Peruvian Natural and Organic Products Developed under Sustainability Criteria’.

BioFach 2013, which is held at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg on 13-16 February, is among the world’s biggest trade fair for organic products.

The ‘Peruvian Natural and Organic Products Developed under Sustainability Criteria’ forum will give an overview of what Peru can offer of natural and organic produce, it will showcase buyers’ experiences from sourcing their goods from Peru, and it will also demonstrate how the country’s organic sector has established itself as sustainable supplier to the European market.

At the Peruvian pavilion at BioFach 2013, tribute will also be paid to International Year of Quinoa through a ‘Quinoa Hour’ where visitors will have the opportunity to taste dishes based on Peru’s ‘golden grain’.

In May 2011, ITC carried out a needs assessment mission on bio-trade to Peru, which revealed that there was a strong demand for technical assistance, especially in overcoming barriers for Peruvian organic companies to export to the United States and European markets. The needs assessment also found that it was necessary to address the sustainability of supply.

In response, ITC launched collaboration with PromPeru on a bio-trade project. In the first phase of the project, eight Peruvian companies were selected to receive technical assistance from ITC and increase the competitiveness of Peruvian SMEs exporting biodiversity based products. These companies are linked to 10,000 suppliers of natural products in the Andes and Amazon regions.
