To celebrate the 2020 International Women’s Day (8 March), the International Trade Centre (ITC) is running a public campaign on Geneva’s public transport to promote women entrepreneurship until mid-March, 2020.

With the support of les Transports publics genevois (TPG), the “Women in Business” campaign features images of successful women entrepreneurs who have benefitted from ITC’s various programmes and are determined to inspire more women to take on business. The purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness on gender equality in business – one of ITC’s strategic goals.

Dorothy Tembo, Acting Executive Director of ITC highlighted on the campaign launch event on Monday 2 March that women are underrepresented in international trade and that half of the world remains left behind.

“It is not just about gender equality but the whole 2030 Agenda,” she said. “None of the 17 SDGs can be achieved without women’s full participation in the economy.”

TPG Board Chair Anne Hornung-Soukup, supporter and partner of this campaign, said that “women are an integral part of the world economy and it is extremely important that they participate fully.”

Since 40% of all small and medium-sized enterprises are owned by women, helping these businesses connect to international value chains has the potential to significantly boost the global economy. ITC with the support of its funders has implemented numerous programmes designed to increase the participation of women entrepreneurs and producers in global value chains and to ensure that they enjoy greater economic benefits from participating in international trade.

Parallel to the offline campaign on buses and trams, ITC invites you to help spread the word on social media that advancing women’s equality in trade matters for everyone. Here is what you can do to help us:
