Registration is open for the 9th Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Network World Conference to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 18-19 October. Hosted by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Transforming TPOs’ Business through Innovation will explore the ways for TPOs to best meet their clients’ needs.
More than 150 participants engaged in the development and promotion of exports from more than 50 countries are expected to attend the biennial event. Participants from TPOs, governmental and private business support organizations, related government ministries, regional trade promotion organizations, and international and national development agencies interested in trade capacity development will engage in debates, exchange experiences, knowledge and good practices in innovative management procedures and service offers.
The theme of transformation is relevant to all TPOs as the effects of the global economy, the impact of sudden, dramatic changes and the increasing pressure to contribute to a positive social impact are challenging TPOs to develop and implement innovative solutions that strengthen the sustainability and export competitiveness of SMEs.
Innovations in TPO management procedures will include plenary sessions on benchmarking and the TPOs role in the green industry, while breakout panel sessions will explore approaches to assessing TPO impact on employment generation and preparing for sudden economic and environmental changes.
Innovative TPO service offers for the tourism, architectural, engineering and ICT industries will be debated along with new approaches that facilitate SMEs in accessing niche markets by complying with voluntary standards relating to sustainable development, the development of the halal products and service industry and the promotion of geographical indicators for agro business products.
The 2012 TPO Network Award winners will be presented at the awards ceremony during the gala dinner on 18 October. The 2012 awards recognize TPOs that have demonstrated outstanding performance in the use of innovative and effective systems and procedures in export development initiatives. Awarded TPOs will present their winning practices on the second day of the conference.
