ITC co-chairs UN working group to strengthen multilateralism and boost the Sustainable Development Goals

The International Trade Centre's Executive Director Pamela Coke-Hamilton has accepted the UN Deputy Secretary-General's appeal to co-chair the Working Group on Our Common Agenda alongside the Administrator of the UN Development Programme.

Secretary-General António Guterres released his report Our Common Agenda one year ago as a blueprint for global cooperation, to reinvigorate multilateralism and serve as a booster shot for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Member States have thrown their support behind most of the Secretary-General’s recommendations; and now the UN system is working together toward important milestones such as the SDG Summit in 2023 and the Summit of the Future in 2024. This working group will provide strategic direction and oversight to the work of the UN development system in support of our Common Agenda.

For ITC’s Executive Director, economic transformation is vital for the long-term thinking and future positioning that Our Common Agenda seeks. “As the UN system, we need to do more to support countries to transform their economies, so they are greener, more digitally connected and create decent jobs for the most vulnerable. We need to ensure the multilateral blueprint includes a real focus on how to make economies more inclusive, equitable and sustainable, beyond 2030.”
