(Geneva) – To coincide with the Global Compact on Refugees to be proposed during the United Nations General Assembly and the ongoing work on the Global Compact for Migration, the International Trade Centre (ITC) will on 21 September host a debate entitled ‘Resilience and Trade: Enhancing Economic Self-Reliance of Displaced Populations and Their Hosts’ at its headquarters in Geneva.

This panel discussion will explore the potential for market-based solutions in the context of vulnerable migration and forced displacement. It will also look how such solutions have been and can be implemented in real-life scenarios.

The event will open with a keynote speech by ITC Executive Director Arancha González. Preceding the panel session remarks will also be delivered by Michele Klein Solomon, Director of the Global Compact for Migration, International Organization for Migration (IOM) and, Daniel Endres, Director for the Division for Resilience and Solutions, United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

The panel will feature representatives from the public and private sector such as Innovest Advisory and the First Syrian Exporters Group.

The event will also host a short presentation by the winning team of the ‘Sprint for Self-Reliance 2018’, a rapid idea-generation workshop to develop market-based livelihoods solutions for vulnerable migrants and forcibly displaced populations, organized the previous day.

In addition to gaining new insights and network, participants will also have the opportunity to enjoy a light lunch provided by Cuisine Lab, a refugee-run social enterprise based in Geneva, which uses food and cooking as a catalyst for intercultural exchange, personal growth, and integration.

Registration is open now here.
