Community-based Tourism Training of Trainers (CBT-TOT)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces SMEs to the importance of creating quality e-commerce content for their online initiatives, presenting them with useful guidelines for content creation, both for individual products as well as for companies as a whole.
It begins by defining the meaning of quality e-commerce content and the benefits which content can bring to an SME's online activities, before moving on to discuss the various different types of content that can be created, their purpose
and the stakeholders for which they are intended. Finally, it introduces tips and provides advice to assist SMEs creating e-commerce content that will be effective and ensure that online transactions take place smoothly and without issue.

Do you want to:

Identify the drivers of existing and emerging halal markets;
Determine compliance requirements for domestic and export production; and
Conduct a readiness self-assessment to access halal markets.

With the right tools, the community-based tourism (CBT) training process can deliver great products for tour operators, great experiences for tourists, and significant benefits for local communities and the environment. Without good preparation,
CBT initiatives can under-achieve, waste resources, and cause negative impacts. Success requires expertise in tourism and community development: through community capacity building, product development and marketing. This course will provide
you with tested tools to develop, promote and sell inspiring community based tours, with a focus on business to business (B2B) tourism partnerships.
ITC’s internationally recognised and award-winning business to business (B2B) CBT development process is organised in 5 major steps:

C#1 CONSIDER: how to select a CBT destination, build trust and assess potentials;
C#2 CONCEIVE: how to shortlist and design marketable CBT experiences and programs;
C#3 CRAFT: how to build local capacity to welcome tourists and offer tourism services;
C#4 CONNECT: how to build trusting marketing partnerships and business linkages;
C#5 CONSERVE: how to sustain and build on this work.

The goal of this course is to develop your knowledge and skills to facilitate the development of successful, inclusive Community Based Tourism; with a special focus on developing and marketing CBT through international,
Business to Business (B2B) tourism supply chains.
This course is aimed at private, public and civil society professionals, who need tested skills and tools to develop or market inspiring, responsible, local tours and experiences. For example:

1.     Tourism Facilitators and trainers such as Government, NGO, Academic, CSO and CBO staff who are responsible for developing and marketing community tourism initiatives.

2.     The Product and Operations Staff of socially and environmentally responsible tour operators, seeking new skills and tools to develop and market inspiring, fun, safe, responsible local tours.

3.     Tourism educators in colleges and universities who want to teach their students about community-based tourism,
and how to facilitate and develop successful CBT initiatives.

4.     Community leaders who wish to gain new skills and techniques to develop, market, manage and operate fun, safe, responsible tours and experiences in their own communities.

The course is designed to be delivered over 1 month; either through pure online self-study or through a blend of online self-study and online coaching sessions by ITC CBT experts. The course includes modules to introduce CBT, explore each
stage of ITC’s ‘5C’ CBT process, and practice applying lessons learned through role plays, challenges and quizzes. Course material is delivered through a diverse blend of videos, case studies, interviews, presentations and games.

Supporting Thailand’s sustainable economic growth and business environment

Thailand has moved from a low to an upper-middle-income economy in less than a generation. It has benefited from strong global and regional trade, a resilient domestic market, and an improved business environment. Yet, it still faces structural constraints that must be addressed to ensure the country’s full participation in the ASEAN economic space and global economy.

Our project will support Thailand by:

  • Contributing to a more transparent, predictable and competitive business environment by strengthening the capacity of the Trade Competition Commission of Thailand (TCCT) to work in accordance with international best practices.
  • Enhancing the capacities of the Comptroller General Department (CGD) to work in accordance with international standards and increase opportunities for Thai small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to participate in public procurement.
  • Enhance the understanding of and promote policy frameworks and best practices for organic agriculture to ensure compliance of Thai products with EU and ASEAN standards, increasing business and export opportunities for Thai SMEs and farmers.
The course provides a variety of viewpoints and approaches on public procurement and shows us best practices in foreign countries with such a wide scope. (…) We will use the knowledge gained and apply it to our public procurement work in Thailand.

I will use the knowledge gained through this training in my daily work. This training contributes to improving the CGD’s work, it provides a bank of knowledge that can assist us in expanding and developing laws. Regulations that we have already issued must be regularly reviewed and updated.

If more officials from government zations or private certification bodies could attend this course or similar ones, they would base their work on the same quality standards. (…) I would like to thank ARISE PLUS Thailand for seeing the importance in developing and applying the quality management system in public and private organizations.

The project and this training can contribute to the sustainability of organic agriculture in Thailand. It strengthens our competitive advantages in bigger markets, at the international level. If we have ISO standards as a basis, operators will be able to plan, evaluate, and clearly improve their practices step by step.

This training course was very valuable. I can use this knowledge and experience and apply it when I need to explain to farmers that the system certification is not difficult and very relevant to them. If the farmers can apply this quality management system, it will eventually raise the agricultural standards in Thailand.

The new Asia-Pacific Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) that came into force in January 2022 covers a third of the world economy and will eliminate 90% of tariffs among 15 East Asian and Pacific countries. The agreement will also reduce costs and improve policy cooperation for the benefit of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises which are the engine of most economies. ITC will focus on the ability of these enterprises to compete on sustainable and specialty goods and services.
