COURSE DERSCRIPTIONYou’ve certainly heard of tourism, culture and agriculture, but have
you ever heard of agritourism, backward linkages or how to guide heritage tours
in a highly professional way?

With examples presented mostly from Myanmar (Southern Shan State) we
introduce three modules in the following topics:

Agritourism:  Have you
ever thought about showing tourists around farms, joining in farming
activities, trying local produce, and meeting farmers and their families?
Agritourism is where tourism and agriculture meet! It helps tourists explore
farms and agricultural landscapes and helps farmers to share their rich
agricultural heritage. In this short course, we will introduce you to
agritourism and show you how this could be the model for you!

The main target group of this course are tour operators, farmers, and
guides.

Heritage tourism: Have
you always been enthusiastic about old buildings, the history of your place and
local authentic food? And have you ever been wondering how to appreciate this
rich heritage? Are you keen on sharing this heritage on a tour? But do you feel
some lack of confidence to share your knowledge in a good way? If so, then this
course is the one you are looking for as we will help you to see
the value of preserving the tangible and intangible heritage of your culture
and become an ambassador of the heritage to your guests.

The main target group of this course is guides.

Backward Linkages between hospitality and
farmers: Have
you always been interested to learn more about potential linkages between
farmers and hospitality sector?
For hotels and restaurants, good food has the potential to become a competitive
advantage while bad food can damage a hotel’s or restaurant’s reputation for
years. This is why it is of great importance for tourism businesses to manage
food in a sustainable way, which means finding access to local produce, supporting local
farmers and building up a reliable food supply. Are you keen to know more but are not sure how
to do this in the best way possible? If so, then this course is for you. Once
you have completed this module, you will determine the opportunities and
value of linkages between farmers and hotels/restaurants.

The
main target group of this module are owners and managers of hotels, restaurants,
and event managers.COURSE OBJECTIVESAfter completing these modules, participants will be able to:Agritourism: Identify successful agritourism’s
components and characteristics, and review best practice in agritourism.
Cultural heritage: Identify what distinguishes a
heritage guide from a normal guide, determine the skills, which are needed as a
heritage guide and apply the knowledge about how to design an inspiring and
diverse tour.Backward Linkages: Identify what is required in order to
engage more local farmers into your local tourism supply linkage and to gain an insight how to set up business linkages between farmers and
hotels including how to manage partnerships.

Community-based Tourism Training of Trainers (CBT-TOT)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces SMEs to the importance of creating quality e-commerce content for their online initiatives, presenting them with useful guidelines for content creation, both for individual products as well as for companies as a whole.
It begins by defining the meaning of quality e-commerce content and the benefits which content can bring to an SME's online activities, before moving on to discuss the various different types of content that can be created, their purpose
and the stakeholders for which they are intended. Finally, it introduces tips and provides advice to assist SMEs creating e-commerce content that will be effective and ensure that online transactions take place smoothly and without issue.

Do you want to:

Identify the drivers of existing and emerging halal markets;
Determine compliance requirements for domestic and export production; and
Conduct a readiness self-assessment to access halal markets.

With the right tools, the community-based tourism (CBT) training process can deliver great products for tour operators, great experiences for tourists, and significant benefits for local communities and the environment. Without good preparation,
CBT initiatives can under-achieve, waste resources, and cause negative impacts. Success requires expertise in tourism and community development: through community capacity building, product development and marketing. This course will provide
you with tested tools to develop, promote and sell inspiring community based tours, with a focus on business to business (B2B) tourism partnerships.
ITC’s internationally recognised and award-winning business to business (B2B) CBT development process is organised in 5 major steps:

C#1 CONSIDER: how to select a CBT destination, build trust and assess potentials;
C#2 CONCEIVE: how to shortlist and design marketable CBT experiences and programs;
C#3 CRAFT: how to build local capacity to welcome tourists and offer tourism services;
C#4 CONNECT: how to build trusting marketing partnerships and business linkages;
C#5 CONSERVE: how to sustain and build on this work.

The goal of this course is to develop your knowledge and skills to facilitate the development of successful, inclusive Community Based Tourism; with a special focus on developing and marketing CBT through international,
Business to Business (B2B) tourism supply chains.
This course is aimed at private, public and civil society professionals, who need tested skills and tools to develop or market inspiring, responsible, local tours and experiences. For example:

1.     Tourism Facilitators and trainers such as Government, NGO, Academic, CSO and CBO staff who are responsible for developing and marketing community tourism initiatives.

2.     The Product and Operations Staff of socially and environmentally responsible tour operators, seeking new skills and tools to develop and market inspiring, fun, safe, responsible local tours.

3.     Tourism educators in colleges and universities who want to teach their students about community-based tourism,
and how to facilitate and develop successful CBT initiatives.

4.     Community leaders who wish to gain new skills and techniques to develop, market, manage and operate fun, safe, responsible tours and experiences in their own communities.

The course is designed to be delivered over 1 month; either through pure online self-study or through a blend of online self-study and online coaching sessions by ITC CBT experts. The course includes modules to introduce CBT, explore each
stage of ITC’s ‘5C’ CBT process, and practice applying lessons learned through role plays, challenges and quizzes. Course material is delivered through a diverse blend of videos, case studies, interviews, presentations and games.
