Information and communication technology and outsourcing

    Overview

ITC supports developing economies and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) build competitiveness in the rapidly growing global information technology and business process outsourcing markets.

Our technical assistance projects focus on capacity building for MSMEs so they can leverage technologies and improve their business skills. We also support the building of conducive policy and business environments, developing sector strategies, connecting companies to markets and investors, supporting innovation, inclusiveness and sustainability.

Access to digital technologies and capabilities will increasingly be critical to ensure opportunities are universally shared and is one of our priorities. The information and communications technology (ICT) and business process outsourcing (BPO) sectors have a key role in the fast-paced transformation of many markets in Asia, Eastern Europe and on the African continent.

The COVID-19 pandemic further accelerated a digital transformation that was already unfolding rapidly. With social distancing, offsite delivery of services and outsourcing became more important than ever before. Global IT spending in 2020 is estimated to have hit an all-time high of $3.6 trillion. In order to leverage this digital momentum, we are incorporating digital elements in all of our projects to strengthen the capacity of MSMEs to engage in e-commerce.
