Securing a Sustainable and Peaceful Future for Youth:  The Contribution of Sports

On the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace 2022, the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Foundation for Children are highlighting the role of sport as a driver for inclusiveness and economic empowerment, especially for youth, at an event at the UEFA headquarters and online.

Please find the link for online participation here.

The panel of active and former football players and experts in sports for development will look at the economic opportunities for entrepreneurship, job creation and business development that sports as a sector can create for young people.

The cooperation between ITC and the UEFA Foundation for Children is an example of partnerships that can generate such impact.  With youth economic empowerment at the forefront, ITC and the UEFA Foundation have developed the Kick for Trade curriculum as part of ITC’s Sport for Development programme. This initiative uses sports to foster the socio-economic inclusion and development of youth, to equip young people with skills for gaining and sustaining employment and to nurture entrepreneurship. Since the launch in 2019, activities have been rolled out in The Gambia, Guinea and recently in Iraq.
