ITC joins hands with UNCTAD and WIPO to celebrate the 2014 Global Entrepreneurship Week, aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among today’s young global entrepreneurs.

Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world’s largest entrepreneurship campaign inspiring people to explore their entrepreneurial ideas. Innovators and job creators are recognized worldwide for launching start-ups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.

Each year during one week in November, Global Entrepreneurship Week introduces people everywhere to the benefits of entrepreneurship through local, national and global activities and motivates them to unleash their talents and turn ideas into reality. These activities, from large-scale competitions to networking gatherings, connect participants to new possibilities and exciting opportunities.

Founded in 2008 by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, Global Entrepreneurship Week now includes more than 25,000 events in over 140 countries. The seventh Global Entrepreneurship Week will run from November 17th to 23rd this year.

UNCTAD, WIPO and ITC jointly celebrated the 2014 Global Entrepreneurship Week on the theme “Creativity, Innovation and Intellectual Property Protection” on 20th November.

A training workshop was organised for the youth community in Geneva aimed at unleashing their creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit. The workshop included presentations, coaching and group activities on key youth entrepreneurship competencies. Youth participants were empowered with skills in creativity, leadership and teamwork.

As part of the celebrations, ITC Youth and Trade initiative hosted a networking lunch along with interactive sessions on becoming an international entrepreneur and branding in an export context.

The ITC Youth and Trade initiative contributes to youth economic empowerment in developing and least developed countries by fostering the inclusion of young entrepreneurs into international markets and global value chains with the ultimate objective of creating jobs and income opportunities.
